Lyrics

The Sower and the Harvest

From Seed to Harvest, God Gives the Increase

Verse

The So-er goeth forth to sow,
And casts the living word below;
Some falls upon the beaten way,
And hungry fowls devour by day;
Some lies on stone and takes no root,
While thorns arise and choke the shoot;
But seed the patient heart will hold
Shall bring forth fruit an hundredfold.

Chorus

Behold the fields already white,
But workers few, while shines the light;
So plant and water, teach and sow—
For God alone can make it grow.

Verse

Three years the Master walked and taught,
He gave the twelve the truth He brought;
He preached the kingdom, healed, and fed,
He brake and blessed the barley bread;
Three years the owner sought its store,
Yet mercy gave one season more;
The Lord still tends the tree with care,
That it may yet its harvest bear.

Verse

He sent us forth to teach the lands,
Baptizing them as He commands;
The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost—
This Name we carry coast to coast;
His presence guides us on our way,
Through ev'ry town from day to day;
Until the age shall reach its end,
He stands as Master, King, and Friend.

Chorus

Behold the fields already white,
But workers few, while shines the light;
So plant and water, teach and sow—
For God alone can make it grow.

Bridge

A corn of wheat must fall and die,
But if it die, much fruit is nigh;
So He was buried, sealed in stone,
Three days beneath the earth, alone;
He rose, the Firstfruits, broke death's chain,
And all in Christ shall rise and reign;
Three years He taught; three days He lay;
And swift shall be the harvest day.

Verse

One sows in tears, another reaps,
And God the treasure safely keeps;
Let one man plant, another tend,
The increase is the Lord's to send;
The fields are ripe, the reapers few;
So pray the Lord: send reapers true;
Who goes forth weeping, bearing seed,
Shall come again with songs indeed.

Verse

The wheat and tares together grow,
Till God shall gather what we sow;
He sends His angels forth to bring
His children home, where they shall sing;
No man may know the day or hour,
The times are in the Father's power;
A quick work shall the Lord fulfill,
At age's end by sovereign will.

Chorus

Behold the fields already white,
But workers few, while shines the light;
So plant and water, teach and sow—
For God alone can make it grow.
