Lyrics
By Two and Two
God sends witnesses two by two before judgment
Verse
Ten spies saw giants, walls, and spears;
Two set the LORD above their fears.
So Joshua and Caleb stood
And called the land exceeding good.
Sent out by Joshua to spy
Where Rahab's scarlet line hung high,
Two brought back word that all the land
The LORD delivered to their hand.
Chorus
In secret, two spies... enter in,
Two messengers to call from sin;
Where walls are doomed and judgment near,
They search for one with ears to hear.
Verse
Two angels came to Sodom's gate
At even, when the day grew late;
While Lot yet lingered, by the hand
They pulled him from that wicked land.
Then two of David's loyal men
Lay hidden in a well; and when
The soldiers passed, they rose to warn,
And David crossed by early morn.
Chorus
In secret, two spies... enter in,
Two messengers to call from sin;
Where walls are doomed and judgment near,
They search for one with ears to hear.
Verse
Christ sent them forth before His face,
By two and two, from place to place;
They brought His peace to house and street,
Or shook the dust from off their feet.
Two angels sat where Jesus lay
To tell that death had lost the day;
When clouds received Him out of sight,
Two told His coming, robed in white.
Chorus
In secret, two spies... enter in,
Two messengers to call from sin;
Where walls are doomed and judgment near,
They search for one with ears to hear.
Verse
Then Peter stood with John, and bold,
The things they saw and heard, they told;
The Holy Ghost set two apart:
Saul, Barnabas—one work, one heart.
Though sharp contention split the two,
Still two by two the witness grew:
So Barnabas with Mark set sail,
And Paul chose Silas for the trail.
Chorus
In secret, two spies... enter in,
Two messengers to call from sin;
Where walls are doomed and judgment near,
They search for one with ears to hear.
Bridge
Two candlesticks, two olive trees
Shall prophesy, be slain—yet these
Shall stand; then loud the trumpet rings,
And Christ shall reign as King of kings.
Chorus
In secret, two spies... enter in,
Two messengers to call from sin;
Where walls are doomed and judgment near,
They search for one with ears to hear.
